DJPT was established in 2013 in an effort to meet the needs of clients who wish to receive high-quality, concierge-style physical therapy (PT) services which are not impacted by healthcare insurance restraints and restrictions. After working for several years within the confines of the current American healthcare system, including government and corporate insurance providers, Dara became increasingly aware of the many barriers inhibiting access to exceptional care.
Initially, Dara was seeing clients who had completed a course of home-based therapy after an injury or illness but were interested in continuing PT to improve or maintain their fitness level and functional potential. Since the practice’s inception, DJPT has expanded to provide physical therapy to a diverse population of clients with a wide variety of needs and requests.
DJPT is client-guided: individuals work with the therapist directly to identify and address their needs, frequency of sessions, and general plan of care. In an increasingly harried and impersonal healthcare climate, DJPT’s clients consistently report that the PT services they receive through DJPT are tailored to them as individuals and in line with the care they value. DJPT is highly focused on facilitating an improved quality of life by helping to manage pain (when indicated), attain optimal fitness capacity, activity tolerance, balance, safety, and overall functional mobility.
Dara Johnson was born and raised in Denver, CO. Her love of learning, of people and community, and of new experiences has allowed her to explore and develop the humility, knowledge, and skills set she applies to her work as a physical therapist. She received undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education and Spanish from the University of Arizona in 2001. She then completed a Peace Corps assignment in South Africa, where she worked in the areas of curriculum and classroom management and reform, health and wellness education, and community development.
Dara began working on her doctoral degree in Physical Therapy in 2004, and received her DPT from Regis University in 2008. She has clinical experience in outpatient, inpatient, and school-based physical therapy, as well as exposure to urban and rural clinics in Ethiopia (where physical therapy is still a young profession).
Outside of her work through DJPT, Dara has professional experience in inpatient acute care, outpatient, and home health physical therapy. She is grateful to have the continued opportunity to provide exceptional, individualized, concierge-style care for the results-oriented consumer.
